Matthew has always held a special place in my heart as he was my boyfriend starting the day after graduation. That summer was a breathless roller coaster ride. But it was worth it … his smile was like sunshine. Matt loved the English language with his whole being and his gift for prose and poetry are among the very best. I am sure he touched many lives with his instruction of writing and through his writings. I thank you, Matt, with all my heart, for touching my life, in so many wonderful ways. I will miss you, my friend.
Matt was one of the bright lights during my high school and early college years. I met him through our mutual friend, David Tittsworth, and the three of us hung out often. I remember Matt for his quick wit, his enthusiasm for writing and literature, his fun-loving nature, and his kindness. I'm sure he was an inspiring teacher who will be missed by his former students, friends, and family.
